PART 1

I found my missing daughter's earrings at a flea market.

The next morning, a policeman knocked on my door and told me something that almost took my breath away.

My daughter, Hannah, was 11 years old when we gave her those earrings.

My husband, Rick, had made them himself.

They were unique. "I'll never take them off, Mom,"

Hannah whispered. Three weeks later, he had disappeared. She disappeared on her way home from her piano lesson.

The police have been looking for her for years. Many theories were considered: kidnapping, disappearance within the city, even amnesia.

But Hannah vanished without a trace. The case was closed.

"It's time to stop living in the past. May our daughter rest in peace," Rick often said.

I tried with all my might. I really tried. Still, I couldn't accept it.

Deep down, I thought I'd find Hannah. Maternal instinct, perhaps. During a walk through the village, I saw her earrings at a flea market stall. My legs almost gave out.

- How did they get here? - I asked the saleswoman.

He shrugged his shoulders. - They came out of a box of objects from an inheritance. I have no idea who they belonged to. My hands were shaking so much that they almost fell off. Bringing the earrings home made Rick turn pale, and then he turned red.

- Why did you bring them home? - he shouted. I was stunned. -

They were Hannah's!

He squeezed the kitchen countertop so hard that his knuckles went white.

- Throw them away! HANNAH'S DEAD! But Hannah had only disappeared.

That night, I slept apart and sobbed, clinging to her earrings. There was a knock at the door to wake me up. Two officers were outside. -

Mrs. Rhodes? -

one of them asked cautiously. My heart sank.

- Yes?

She looked over my shoulder at my husband, who was standing there in his old robe.

—These are the earrings you found yesterday—

" the agent said, "and YOUR DAUGHTER."

My breath caught in my throat. - Did you find Hannah? Silence. His gaze remained fixed on my husband.

"Madam," he said quietly, "now you are going to find out what your husband has been hiding from you for ten years."
