I wore my father's uniform to my prom.

PART 1
I sewed my graduation gown using my father's military uniform as a tribute to him. My stepmother used to make fun of me until an army officer came knocking at the door and handed me a letter that made her pale.
I sewed my graduation gown using my father's military uniform as a tribute to him. My stepmother used to make fun of me until an army officer came knocking at the door and handed me a letter that made her pale.
My mother died giving birth to me.
After that, it was just my father and me.
Finally, my father married a woman named Camila. She already had two daughters from a previous marriage.
Camila only treated me well when my father was home. He was doing his military service, and every time he returned to his base, she became cold and distant with me again.
But I had my father.
And that was enough.
Six years ago, my father died in the line of duty.
I felt like my world was collapsing.
After that, Camila and her daughters stopped pretending.
Overnight, I was the one cleaning the whole house, cooking, and doing everything they didn't want to do.
Camila never missed an opportunity to remind me that I should be grateful to her for raising me instead of placing me in foster care.
There wasn't much I could do.
So I focused on my survival and waited for the day I could go to university.
My father had always dreamed of seeing me at my prom.
I knew it.
That's why, months before the event, I found his military uniform stored in my closet and made a decision.
I would make it my ball gown.
I spent an entire month secretly sewing it in my room.
Each point was a memory.
Every detail was a way to keep him close to me.
On the evening of the ball, I went down the stairs in my dress.
Camila looked at me.
And she burst out laughing.
"Seriously... do you really think that turning your father's uniform into a dress is elegant?" Then one of my stepsisters burst out laughing.
"What happened? Didn't your waitressing job allow you to buy a decent dress?"
The other added:
"It looks like you've wrapped yourself in old rags. Honestly, it suits you perfectly."
I felt tears welling up in my eyes.
At that precise moment… THERE'S A KNOCK ON THE DOOR.
Camila opened it.
An officer stood on the steps.
He was wearing his ceremonial uniform.
His expression was serious.
"Mrs. Camila?" he asked.
She nodded.
"I'm here to give you something from Sergeant Michael Carter."
My heart stopped.
That was my father's name.
The officer continued:
"His last wish was that this letter be delivered today."
Camila immediately took the envelope.
She opened it without hesitation.
But as soon as she read the first line…
Her hands began to tremble.
She turned pale. And all the laughter that echoed in the house suddenly died away…
