At Prom, Only One Boy Asked Me to Dance While Everyone Else Ignored Me Because I Was in a Wheelchair – The Next Morning, an Officer Knocked on My Door and Revealed the Truth About Him

He stepped inside, his expression grave. He opened the file and pulled out a photograph—it was the boy I had  danced with, but he was wearing a  uniform.
"I’m here about the incident at the prom," the officer said, his voice low.
My heart hammered against my ribs. "Was he hurt? Did he get into trouble because he danced with me?"

I asked, panicked.
The officer shook his head slowly.

"On the contrary. He wasn’t even supposed to be there. He’s an undercover detective. We’ve been tracking a dangerous ring of people who have been targeting students at schools in this district, specifically preying on those they think are vulnerable.

He was assigned to identify the perpetrators, but he told us that as soon as he saw you, his mission changed. He didn't just want to catch them—he wanted to make sure you were protected, even if it meant blowing his cover."
I felt my breath hitch.

"So... he only danced with me to protect me?"
The officer handed me a letter. "He wanted you to have this. He was pulled off the case the moment his cover was compromised, and he had to leave immediately for his own safety.

He said you were the only real thing that happened to him that night."
I opened the letter with trembling hands, and as I read his words, I realized that the boy who everyone else had ignored was the one person who had risked everything just to make sure I had one night of magic.
