2 Constant Criticism and Conditional Love
When affection feels like something that must be earned through perfection, children grow up feeling fundamentally inadequate. If a mother’s presence is always tied to critique—whether about performance, appearance, or life choices—the child eventually shields themselves by staying at a distance.
3 Over-Control and Lack of Boundaries
Parenting requires shifting from control to guidance as a child grows. Mothers who strictly manage their child’s personal space, decisions, and opinions well into adulthood force the child into a choice: lose their identity, or pull away to protect their independence.
4 Emotional Parentification
In some family dynamic settings, the roles reverse. The child becomes the mother’s emotional anchor, therapist, or confidant. Bearing the burden of an adult's emotional instability overwhelms a young mind, causing them to shut down emotionally to prevent burnout.
